Young Friends of Film
Judy Berlin
Thursday, June 5, 2008 at 7:30 pm

“Some movies are too good to miss. ‘Judy Berlin’ is one of them.” – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

Actress Edie Falco and director Eric Mendelsohn will be present for a Q&A. As always, there will be a post-film party with an open bar and hors d’oeuvres.

In this perceptive, suburban drama, a solar eclipse descends on the lonely inhabitants of a Long Island town as they try to cope with their unhappy lives and connect with one another. A lonely teacher flirts with her married principal while his high strung wife twirls at home. At the center is a failed filmmaker, who mopes about town until he happens upon the bubbly Judy Berlin, a former high-school acquaintance and aspiring actress. Boasting an all-star cast of New York actors including Edie Falco and Madeline Kahn, and shot in sumptuous black-and-white, the film is an incredibly sensitive and humorous debut by writer/director Eric Mendelsohn. Winner of the 1999 Directing award at the Sundance Film Festival, the film went on to be an opening night film for New Directors/New Films. Sadly, it was also Madeline Kahn’s final film.

Young Friends of Film members receive one complimentary ticket (two for dual YFF members) to the event and can purchase tickets for their guests at $25 each. For the public, admission is $30. Admission includes the screening & reception.

Please note: there is a $2.50 service charge per ticket ordered online and cash only transactions at the box office. No passes ~ no vouchers accepted to this event.

A Young Friends of Film event is much more than your typical night-at-the-movies. Screenings of classic Hollywood & foreign films are introduced by the film’s director or cast, or a film historian or critic and frequently followed by a Q&A. At the catered post-screening party in the Furman Gallery, adjacent to the Walter Reade Theater, you can meet & mingle at the open-bar with your fellow film buffs. Some YFF events also feature live music during the post-screening party. Admission always includes free popcorn and soda, as well as a complimentary coat check and free raffle drawings for a great array of prizes. And sometimes even free gifts to take home!
