Made at the height of anti-Vietnam War protests, when many producers quickly passed on cop movie scripts, this landmark police action drama rode McQueen’s unique cool demeanor as Lt. Frank Bullitt straight to box office success. With William Fraker’s masterful cinematography and Frank Keller’s Oscar-winning editing, this big screen must-see features one of classic Hollywood’s most talked-about sequences, the legendary, nine-and-a-half minute car chase between Bullitt’s green Ford Mustang Fastback 390 and a black Dodge Charger 440 over San Francisco’s hills.

It is also also screening in the Yesterday's Loner series.

“This extremely well made thriller stars Steve McQueen in the top performance of his career... The whizzbang action sequence, up and down the hills of San Francisco, is arguably the most spectacular car chase ever filmed.” – Elliott Stein, The Village Voice

“If car chases over the hilly streets of San Francisco are what gets your heart a-pumpin’, this 60s shoot-’em-up (complete with Lalo Schifrin’s funkiest score) is the movie for you. Steve McQueen could not be cooler – we like the whole turtleneck-with-shoulder-holster look – and the thing moves faster than a speeding… um… what’s that word again?” – Time Out New York
