Billy Casper (the remarkable David Bradley) is a sullen 15-year-old boy whose life with his dysfunctional mother and bullying older brother is transformed when he finds a young kestrel hawk. As he takes in the bird and starts to train it, the creativity and joy so long bottled up in the withdrawn young man suddenly comes rushing out.
