A special presentation by the Film Society of Lincoln Center.
Led by former Vice President Al Gore and Kevin Wall, worldwide executive producer of the Live 8 concerts, the Live Earth concerts will use the global reach of music to engage people on a mass scale to combat our climate crisis. It will span seven concerts across seven continents, bringing together more than 150 of the world's top musicians for a 24-hour concert that will include short films commissioned by respected film directors.
Concerts will be staged in New York, London, Sydney, Tokyo, Shanghai, Rio de Janeiro, Johannesburg, Istanbul and Hamburg and will feature a mix of both legendary music acts like The Police, Genesis, Bon Jovi, UB40, Madonna with the latest headliners like Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson, Black Eyed Peas and Jack Johnson. Live Earth will engage an audience of more than two billion, through television, radio, film and the Internet. That audience and the proceeds from the event will create the foundation for a new, multi-year global effort headed by Gore to combat the climate crisis. We will simulcast the concerts on July 7 from 11am - 5pm free of charge.
The Film Society of Lincoln Center is initiating a new program at the Walter Reade Theater with screenings of public service announcements showcasing climate change, sustainability and other matters concerning the health of our planet and its inhabitants. We hope to be the first movie theater in the country to regularly screen PSA’s and additionally hope to serve as an example to other theaters to join us. Uniting our local effort with a global one, we are thrilled to launch the PSA program during the simulcast of the Live Earth world concerts on July 7.
