Sisters Elisa (Geraldine Chaplin) and Isabel (Isabel Mestres) go to visit their ailing father Luis (Fernando Rey) for his birthday. The family shares an awkward reunion. As everyone is preparing to leave, Luis invites Elisa to stay. Puzzled but intrigued, she accepts. Thus begins an extraordinary process of communion, as the two recount experiences that reveal remarkable parallels in their lives. Fernando Rey received the Best Actor award for his work in the film at the 1977 Cannes Film Festival.
