What Iva Recorded on October 21, 2003 / Sto je lva snimila 21. listopada 2003
Series: Beyond Boundaries: The Emergence of Croatian Cinema
Director: Tomislav Radic, Country: Croatia, Release: 2005, Runtime: 92

“I’m just shooting what I find interesting,” responds 15-year-old Iva, when her mother demands she shut off her new video camera, a birthday gift from her stepfather, Bozo, who’s been trying to win the girl over. But Bozo’s real target that evening is Hoffman, a visiting German businessman with whom Bozo is trying to conclude a deal. Also present is Iva’s uncle Darko, who comes accompanied by his “escort,” Nina. Gradually, tensions mount and the situation threatens to spin out of control, all while Iva’s recording with her new toy. Beautifully shot by experimental filmmaker Vedran Samonovic, What Iva Recorded captures the evening from Iva’s point of view, a conceit that’s sustained throughout the entire film. Director Tomislav Radic, whose career stretches over three decades, elicits remarkably spontaneous performances from all the actors.
