Ibro and his son Armin are traveling by bus from their home in Bosnia to Zagreb, so that Armin can audition for a part in an international co-production on the war. For Ibro, the audition represents a way out for him and his family; for Armin, the trip is the thing—he has never been this far from home and is fascinated by the new worlds he is encountering. Ognjen Svilicic’s third feature is a delicate film of quick glances and small gestures. Father and son do not say much, especially not to each other, but the film powerfully charts the evolution of their relationship as they learn about themselves during the course of the trip. In the title role, non-actor Armin Omerovic-Muhedin is terrific—a mass of withdrawn, adolescent diffidence—but wait until you hear him play the accordion!
