Matador

Matador
Series: Viva Pedro Returns! [Dec 27 2006 – Jan 3 2007]
Director: Pedro Almodóvar, Country: Spain, Release: 1986, Runtime: 110

Forced by a goring to retire early from his career, the bullfighter Diego Montes suffers an unbearably intense lingering nostalgia for the bullring. The only pleasure that calms his anxiety is killing his lovers right after they climax. Matador, which has a cult following in many countries around the world, stars a very young Antonio Banderas, Eusebio Poncela and Assumpta Serna as Maria, the sinisterly beautiful lawyer who is driven by similar dark desires — gorging her own lovers at their climax by thrusting her hairpin into their necks.Matador’s over-the-top exuberance and eroticism — in the story, set design, colors, magnificent characters and in the violence and perverse necrophilic passion — are, in more raw form, early landmarks for the stylish excesses so loved in his later films.
