50-year-old Santiago (in an award-winning performance by the wonderful Juan Diego) is caught up in the drab routine of his life, earning a modest living as a supporting actor in a mediocre theater farce.
Though a far cry from the dreams and aspirations of his youth it is a comfortable routine, one that keeps his frustrations and disappointments at bay. One day he receives the unexpected visit of his grown-up son, Guillermo (Juan Diego Botto), who he has not seen in years. Guillermo has no intention of taking on any responsibilities in life and his father is determined to kick him out if he doesn’t find a job. But in the comic, bittersweet situations that ensue, father and son gradually come to terms with who they are, and, in an apparent reversal of roles, reach out to each other from a more lonely but ultimately more honest place.
