This program celebrates the work of internationally renowned and award-winning animator John Canemaker. His The Moon and the Son: An Imagined Conversation (2005; 29m) won an Academy Award this year. The film explores the difficult terrain of father-son relationships as seen through Canemaker's own turbulent relationship with his father. Featuring the voices of noted actors Eli Wallach and John Turturro, it combines memory, fact, conjecture, trial transcripts, audio recordings, home movies, photos, snapshots, and playful animation to tell the story of an Italian immigrant's troubled life and the devastating consequences of his actions on his family. The program also features earlier shorts by Canemaker, who is also Director of the Animation program at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Earlier works include: Confessions of a Stardreamer (9m); Bridgehampton (6m); Confessions of a Stand-Up (9m); Bottom's Dream (6m); The Wizard's Son (10m). John Canemaker will introduce his work and answer questions.
