A special presentation by the Film Society of Lincoln Center in collaboration with the Metropolitan Opera.
Live simulcast from the stage of the Metropolitan Opera House to the Walter
Reade Theater, specially equipped with high definition screens and surround
sound.
Celebrated director and filmmaker Julie Taymor, who directed The Lion King
on Broadway, brings her dynamic theatrical vision to Mozart's The Magic
Flute. Dancing bears, flying birds and a giant serpent, all are brought
vividly to life through Taymor's ingenious use of puppetry. This beloved
Mozart opera, featuring a new English text by J.D. McClatchy, will be
conducted by Met Maestro James Levine and performed by a delightful young
cast. Taymor's dazzling production has been abridged by the director into an
appealing 100-minute version for The Met's first holiday family opera
presentation.
