My Brother’s Wedding
Series: ND/NF Classics 2008
Director: Charles Burnett, Country: USA, Release: 1983, Runtime: 82

“Pierce Mundy may not be Watts’ favorite son, but he certainly is a native one. He is an original character––complex, conflicted and so strongly realized that Pierce Mundy could very well become the symbol of his generation. His friends are street-tough and fast dying off; his brother, an upwardly mobile lawyer, is about to marry a doctor’s daughter. With his community and family Pierce carries on a love-hate relationship, and Charles Burnett, the writer-director, rather than proposing any easy resolution for Pierce, presents him with an exquisite climatic situation. In the meantime, he has also fashioned a very special film that is as warm and humorous as it is serious.”
