Klaus Lucka: Portraits of the Artist’s Mind
May 6 – 31, 2008

In the Frieda and Roy Furman Gallery ~ adjacent to the Walter Reade Theater lobby. Open daily 1:30 to 6pm.

Klaus Lucka’s world-class career in beauty, fashion and advertising photography has earned him more than 100 industry awards for excellence in the U.S. and abroad. This show –– featuring portraits of artists who frequently work at Lincoln Center, including playwright Tom Stoppard, choreographer Mark Morris, director Peter Sellars, video artist Bill Viola, puppeteer Basil Twist, director Robert Wilson and many others –– reflects his current focus on photography as an art form.

The show is a special presentation of Lincoln Center’s List Art program. Most of the prints in this exhibition will be offered for sale.

Lucka worked with a Noblex camera, a special panorama camera with a sweeping lens, which enabled him to produce a “layered panoramas” effect. What appears to be a single photo may actually be comprised of up to 15 images chosen from as many as 30 rolls of film. “In this way,” says Lucka, “I can produce an in-depth portrayal of the artist.”
