Please join us in honoring Jessica Lange, a remarkable film star whose career has garnered her two Oscars® - one for Best Actress in Blue Sky and the other for Best Supporting Actress in Tootsie – as well as four Golden Globes, and one Olivier Award. She has impressed critics, peers and audiences with her bold portrayals of unforgettable women in films as varied as All That Jazz, Tootsie, Frances, Country, Blue Sky and Broken Flowers.
“Jessica Lange is a very special talent,” says Film Society of Lincoln Center’s Gala Director Wendy Keys. “She has an uncanny ability to delve into the female psyche with a subtlety that few actors can match. Her delicate features, soft voice and luminous beauty belie unexpected reserves of strength and vigor which she draws on for her performances of independent, unconventional women.”
In addition to her film roles, Ms. Lange has appeared on stage and on television in Long Day’s Journey and A Streetcar Named Desire. Ms. Lange is also known for her efforts to expand the role of women in the entertainment industry for which she has received the prestigious Women In Film Crystal award.
Ms. Lange will soon begin filming Grey Gardens with Drew Barrymore, playing the role of Edith Bouvier Beale, Sr. in a screenplay based on the lives of Big and Little Edie, Park Avenue debutantes who withdrew from New York society by taking shelter in their Long Island summer home.
The Film Society’s Gala Tribute will include selected highlights from Ms. Lange’s career as well as on stage salutes from friends and colleagues, concluding with personal remarks by Ms. Lange on the stage of Avery Fisher Hall.
