Widely hailed as one of the year’s best films, A History
of Violence is the story of Tom Stall (Viggo Mortensen), who
lives with his wife Edie (Maria Bello) and two children in a sleepy
Indiana town, operating the local diner. One day two tough guys
roll into town and eventually into Tom’s diner. Soon they’re
robbing the place and threatening to kill everyone in it; Tom manages
to subdue the two of them, and soon he’s a national hero—helping
some people who’ve been looking for Tom to discover exactly
where to find him.
One
of the most consistently provocative filmmakers
of our time, David Cronenberg, together with his
stars Viggo Mortensen, Maria Bello, and William Hurt,
will discuss A History
of Violence immediately
following this screening with Film Society Program
Director Richard Peña. |
