Beloved Hollywood hits include romantic classics (WOMAN OF THE YEAR, SHALL WE DANCE) from the Golden Age of Hollywood to slapstick buddy guy comedies (THE STING, ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN) and even a celebrated cartoon classic (TOM & JERRY).

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today the schedule for COWARD ON FILM (May 11-13), which will run in conjunction with the ongoing citywide festival STAR QUALITY: THE WORLD OF NOËL COWARD honoring the British playwright, actor, director and composer. The series will trace the breadth of his film work, which ranges from British silent and sound adaptations of his early plays to the later prestige productions of his works made in Hollywood. Notable films from his multi-film collaboration with the young David Lean will also be highlighted, as well as his celebrated cameo appearances in others’ films.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today that it will collaborate with StoryCode and Kill Screen Magazine as it steps up its transmedia/immersive media programming and becomes a key participant in the ongoing discussion on how the evolution of technology has changed the way we convey and consume narrative.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center’s year-long countdown to the New York Film Festival’s historic 50th edition continues this spring, offering the rare opportunity to view several undisputed classics of the big screen, many of which were introduced to the world at NYFF. These include breakthrough films from the 1990s by Zhang Yimou, Gus Van Sant, Jane Campion and more. A special appearance will be made by director/editor Steve James at the Hoop Dreams screening on Tuesday, June 5.

The Space Between: A Panorama of Cinema in Turkey is the largest retrospective of films from Turkey to be presented in the United States. The retrospective is produced by The Moon and Stars Project of The American Turkish Society and the Film Society of Lincoln Center. The program includes more than 25 films and runs from Friday, April 27 through Thursday, May 10, presenting award winning Turkish films from the 1950s to the present.

Tropfest, the world’s largest short film festival, today announced it will collaborate with prominent media outlets STARZ CINEMA, NBC 4, and WNYC Radio as well as Citi, luxury hotel brand Thompson Hotels and Film Society of Lincoln Center in launching Tropfest New York in June. Ambassadors, who are supporting the launch of Tropfest into the USA, include Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Anthony Lapaglia, Charles Randolph, Geoffrey Rush and Liev Schreiber.

Columbia University School of the Arts Film Program and Film Society of Lincoln Center have announced they will co-present the 25th Anniversary of the Columbia University Film Festival (CUFF), a week-long program of screenings, dramatic readings and special events in New York. The festival will open with a 25 Year Celebration featuring a selection of the best student short films representing the past 25 years, presented by esteemed alumni of the program.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today the schedule for IMAGES FROM THE EDGE: CLASSIC AND CONTEMPORARY ICELANDIC CINEMA (April 18-26). The upcoming series, the largest presentation of Icelandic cinema ever held in the United States, which will include Iceland’s first two features that debuted the use of sound in the ‘50s - BETWEEN MOUNTAIN AND SHORE and LAST FARM IN THE VALLEY.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today that Susan Sarandon will act as Honorary Chair for this year’s Gala, as well as the initial presenter line up for the upcoming 39th Annual Chaplin Award to include Martin Scorsese, Chiara Mastroianni and Arnaud Desplechin. This year’s Chaplin Award will be presented to Academy Award-nominee Catherine Deneuve on the evening of Monday, April 2, 2012 at Alice Tully Hall. The event will be attended by a host of notable guests and celebrities honoring the film legend’s groundbreaking career and will feature film and television clips commemorating her prolific career, culminating in the presentation of The Chaplin Award.
