The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today the complete lineup for the 17th edition of Views from the Avant-Garde (VIEWS), taking place from October 3-7, during the New York Film Festival (NYFF). The popular yearly touchstone for experimental film returns with curator Mark McElhatten at the helm, and will contain 35+ programs in glorious Super-8, 16 mm and 35mm film and HD formats. Many familiar faces will return, and VIEWS will also feature 45 new artists and several mini-retrospectives of several of these artists including, Aura Satz, Lois Patiño, Sandro Aguilar, and Jean-Paul Kelly. Views will also offer special tributes to the late Stom Sogo and Anne Robertson whose work is a testimony to the power of a Cinema that is fearless, confidential and inextinguishable.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center and Film Comment Magazine announced today that they will host the U.S. premiere of Steve McQueen’s new film, 12 Years A Slave, on Tuesday, October 8th at the New York Film Festival. McQueen will be on hand to present the film along with cast members, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Lupita Nyong’o, Adepero Oduye, Paul Dano and Alfre Woodard. Tickets will be available starting Sunday, September 8th, when tickets go on sale to the general public for the festival.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today NEW YORK FILM FESTIVAL: OPENING ACT (September 20-26), a showcase of international films from the brightest names in contemporary world cinema, whose new titles will be spotlighted in the upcoming 51st New York Film Festival (kicking off on September 27). For the week leading up to Opening Night, audiences will have a rare chance to catch up and rediscover some of the finest previous work from these filmmakers. Includes works from the Coen Brothers, Claire Denis, Arnaud Desplechin, Lav Diaz, James Gray, Paul Greengrass, Spike Jonze, Hirokazu Kore-eda and more.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today the details for the 2013 NYFF Convergence, which will run on Saturday, September 28 through Monday, September 30. Building on the success of last year’s debut, the second edition of the crowning event for the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s year round programming commitment to transmedia will be presented at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center and the Walter Reade Theater with three days of panels, workshops and “immersive experiences.” This year’s edition will also feature a special secret event to close out NYFF Convergence that will be announced at a later date. Highlights include World Premieres of A SHORT HISTORY OF THE HIGHRISE and THE EMPIRE PROJECT, New York Premieres of CHARLIE VICTOR ROMEO, THE COSMONAUT and NO MORE ROAD TRIPS? as well as a special appearance by Cory McAbee.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today the details of the additional programming that will complement the Main Slate selections at the 2013 New York Film Festival. The programs feature a spotlight on three documentary sections (Applied Sciences, Motion Portraits and How Democracy Works Now), and an impressive lineup of movies that have recently been restored (Revivals), including works by Leos Carax, Martin Scorsese, Nicholas Ray, Alain Resnais, Luchino Visconti and many more in the REVIVALS section.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today that Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Real has been added to the lineup for the previously announced Main Slate Official Selections for the 51st New York Film Festival (September 27 – October 13). The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today that Cate Blanchett and Ralph Fiennes will be the subjects of this year’s NYFF Gala Tributes. The Gala Tribute to Cate Blanchett will take place on Wednesday, October 2, and the Gala Tribute to Ralph Fiennes will take place on Wednesday, October 9 in conjunction with the screening of his film THE INVISIBLE WOMAN, which was previously announced as a Main Slate Official Selection.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center (FSLC) will spend An Evening with Pierre Lhomme on Thursday, September 12. In advance of the opening of the new restoration of Lhomme and Chris Marker’s landmark documentary Le Joli Mai (on September 13 at Film Forum), the Film Society of Lincoln Center will present a double bill showcasing the range of Lhomme’s gifts: a pairing of Be Seeing You, a radical, black-and-white Marker documentary, with its sequel, Class of Struggle, and a special presentation of Melville’s magisterial color epic Army of Shadows. Lhomme will be in attendance at both shows.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today the 35 films that will comprise the main slate of official selections for the 51st New York Film Festival (September 27-October 13) including such notable directors as Catherine Breillat, J.C. Chandor, Joel & Ethan Coen, Richard Curtis, Claire Denis, Arnaud Desplechin, Ralph Fiennes, James Franco, James Gray, Jim Jarmusch, Claude Lanzmann, Alexander Payne, Hong Sang-soo, Frederick Wiseman and Jia Zhangke.

The 25th annual NewFest, New York's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Film Festival will run from Friday, September 6th through Wednesday, September 11th, with a lineup of 15 narrative features, 4 documentaries, 31 shorts and other special events. For the third time in NewFest's history, the festival is in partnership with the Film Society of Lincoln Center and screenings and panels will take place at Manhattan's film mecca, the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater and the JCC in Manhattan.
