FSLC announces Gala Tributes to honor Cate Blanchett and Ralph Fiennes at the 2013 NY Film Festival

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today that Cate Blanchett and Ralph Fiennes will be the subjects of this year’s NYFF Gala Tributes. The Gala Tribute to Cate Blanchett will take place on Wednesday, October 2, and the Gala Tribute to Ralph Fiennes will take place on Wednesday, October 9 in conjunction with the screening of his film THE INVISIBLE WOMAN, which was previously announced as a Main Slate Official Selection.

FSLC spends an evening with PIERRE LHOMME

The Film Society of Lincoln Center (FSLC) will spend An Evening with Pierre Lhomme on Thursday, September 12. In advance of the opening of the new restoration of Lhomme and Chris Marker’s landmark documentary Le Joli Mai (on September 13 at Film Forum), the Film Society of Lincoln Center will present a double bill showcasing the range of Lhomme’s gifts: a pairing of Be Seeing You, a radical, black-and-white Marker documentary, with its sequel, Class of Struggle, and a special presentation of Melville’s magisterial color epic Army of Shadows. Lhomme will be in attendance at both shows.

FSLC announces Main Slate of selections for the 2013 NY Film Festival with 35 Features

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today the 35 films that will comprise the main slate of official selections for the 51st New York Film Festival (September 27-October 13) including such notable directors as Catherine Breillat, J.C. Chandor, Joel & Ethan Coen, Richard Curtis, Claire Denis, Arnaud Desplechin, Ralph Fiennes, James Franco, James Gray, Jim Jarmusch, Claude Lanzmann, Alexander Payne, Hong Sang-soo, Frederick Wiseman and Jia Zhangke.

Lineup announced for the 25th anniversary of Newfest, the New York LGBT Film Festival, Sept 6-11

The 25th annual NewFest, New York's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Film Festival will run from Friday, September 6th through Wednesday, September 11th, with a lineup of 15 narrative features, 4 documentaries, 31 shorts and other special events. For the third time in NewFest's history, the festival is in partnership with the Film Society of Lincoln Center and screenings and panels will take place at Manhattan's film mecca, the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater and the JCC in Manhattan.

FSLC announces upcoming INDIE NIGHT and ART OF THE REAL selections

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced the selections for the upcoming popular monthly Indie Night and Art of the Real series. Spotlighting the best and boldest new wave of independent cinema, Indie Night keeps with the Film Society’s tradition of supporting and showcasing emerging filmmakers. September’s selection is Daniel Patrick Carbone’s HIDE YOUR SMILING FACES and in October Indie Night will feature a special retrospective screening and also welcome back director Alex Rivera for SLEEP DEALER, which premiered at the 2008 edition of New Directors/New Films. This week’s previously announced August Indie Night showcases Mike Ott’s PEARBLOSSOM HWY tomorrow, on Tuesday, August 13 at 8:00PM, with the director in attendance.

WORLD PREMIERE of CAPTAIN PHILLIPS announced as Opening Night selection of 51st NY Film Festival

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today that Paul Greengrass’s CAPTAIN PHILLIPS will make its World Premiere as the Opening Night Gala presentation for the upcoming 51st New York Film Festival (September 27 – October 13). Starring two-time Academy Award® winner and 2009 Film Society Chaplin Award honoree Tom Hanks in the title role, the film is Academy Award®-nominated director Paul Greengrass’s multi-layered examination of the 2009 hijacking of the U.S. container ship Maersk Alabama by a crew of Somali pirates.

FSLC and INDIEWIRE announce Call for Entries for 2013 NYFF Critics Academy applications

The Film Society of Lincoln Center and Indiewire announced today a call for entries for the 2013 New York Film Festival Critics Academy. The Critics Academy, Indiewire and Film Society’s initiative to assist aspiring film critics with the process of kickstarting their careers, was first launched at the 2012 Locarno Film Festival. Produced in partnership with the Film Society of Lincoln Center, a local version was then produced that fall during the 2012 New York Film Festival. In January, the Sundance Film Festival will host a Critics Academy funded in part by the Roger Ebert Scholarship for Film Criticism. Earlier this month, the finalists were announced for the next Locarno Critics Academy, which begins August 6.
