An Evening with Taika Waititi Featuring Boy

Writer, director, actor, painter and all-around artistic renaissance man, Taika Waititi grew up on New Zealand’s East Coast and attended Victoria University, where he became a member of the comedy troupe So You’re a Man (alongside future Flight of the Conchords frontman Jermaine Clement). Later, together with Clement, he formed the comedy duo Humorbeasts, for which they received New Zealand's highest comedy honour, the Billy T Award. Moving into filmmaking, Waititi’s 2004 short Two Cars, One Night earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Live Action Short, while his 2007 debut feature, Eagle Vs. Shark, was selected for the world cinema competition at Sundance and released in the U.S. by Miramax Films. Then, in 2010, his second feature, Boy, shattered all box-office records in New Zealand to become the highest-grossing local film of all time. Like all of Waititi’s work, it brings a disarming comic sensibility and generous affection for its characters to the story of an energetic 11-year-old reconnecting with his long-estranged father. In advance of Boy’s U.S. theatrical premiere at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center, we are delighted to welcome Waititi for an evening celebrating his eclectic body of work, including a complete screening of Boy, the short Two Cars, One Night and a career-spanning on-stage conversation.
