USA | Format: digital | color | sound | 5:50 minutes
Screening as part of the program Phantom Residence
One of a cycle of nine commemorative *songs*—thwarted-love *songs*, cover *songs*, drugged, slow-jammed, funny and scary, referential up and down—2003 or 2007 sung in the pitch of 2011 or 2012—ghosts and pleasure and criminality, credit, sport, spoil (vanity erotics), laced/bricolaged with new empathies (mass-scale and mystic empathies).
The brief (pop song length), breathy sound and image collage is essentially a diaristic narrative about demonic possession and a sexy/murderous tour of Newport by sports car reimagined/recalled in South Brooklyn at the aquarium. It’s impressionistic, creepy-trill, a baby-voiced/trance-state flirtation with violence, evil, lostness, and powerlessness, a poem tracing the classic Gothic dissonance and harmony between girls and monsters (rather smoked and muffled by the blue New Age cloud overlaying it).—S.G.N.
Venue: Howard Gilman Theater
