Jacques Rozier 1965
France | 94 minutes
Director of perhaps the quintessential New Wave film, Adieu Philippine, Jacques Rozier was a perfect candidate to make a film about the grandfather of all independent filmmakers, Jean Vigo. Rarely following a script, Rozier brings some of the loose improvisational quality of his fiction filmmaking to his work here, giving this film about a director already dead 30 years at the time a very contemporary feeling. Among those offering stories and observations on Vigo are Michel Simon, Dita Parlo, Jean Dasté, and his daughter Luce.
