“My Week With Marilyn” in New York Film Festival Centerpiece Slot

As we prepare for the 49th New York Film Festival, the Film Society is thrilled to announce another film in its 2011 lineup: My Week with Marilyn, directed by Simon Curtis, will have its world premiere on October 9 as the Centerpiece at Alice Tully Hall.
The festival, which takes place from September 30 to October 16, announced on Friday that the opening night film will be Roman Polanski’s Carnage.
Michelle Williams stars in My Week with Marilyn as Marilyn Monroe, as seen through the diaries of British filmmaker Colin Clark (played by Eddie Redmayne). The film is set in the summer of 1956, during an idyllic week in which the young Clark introduced Monroe to British life, providing welcome relief from the pressures of Hollywood.
"After seeing Marilyn Monroe so often portrayed in films as a caricature, it is a pleasure to see this complex personality and unique on-screen presence portrayed so well by such a talented actress as Michelle Williams," said Richard Peña, Film Society program director and chair of the NYFF selection committee today.
Film Society members and patrons will have the opportunity to buy advance and discount tickets to the New York Film Festival. To enjoy these special benefits, join today by clicking here. Tickets will be on sale to the general public starting September 12.
