Corneliu Porumboiu's When Evening Falls On Bucharest or Metabolism had its U.S. debut at the 51st NYFF.
Corneliu Porumboiu's recent New York Film Festival debut When Evening Falls On Bucharest or Metabolism is headed for U.S. theaters in early 2014.
Set entirely in hotel rooms, lobbies, restaurants – places that lie on the periphery of a movie set, When Evening Falls on Bucharest or Metabolism follows Paul, a director of some renown, who is suffering from an imaginary medical condition and a real crisis of faith. He has two weeks left to shoot his latest opus; but is for some unknown reason plagued with doubt. Perhaps it has to do with his actress, with whom he’s having an affair, or the constraints of Chinese cuisine, or Michelangelo Antonioni, or something in between.
"Following his first two masterful films, Porumboiu has demonstrated once again why he is one of the most exciting, innovative and important filmmakers working anywhere in the world today," said Ryan Krivoshey of The Cinema Guild, which will distribute the film Stateside. "We are thrilled to be releasing When Evening Falls on Bucharest or Metabolism."
"When Evening Falls on Bucharest or Metabolism premiered at the Locarno Film Festival in August and was an official selection of both the Toronto and New York Film Festivals. It is Corneliu Porumboiu’s third feature, following the internationally praised Police, Adjective, which screened at the 2009 NYFF, and 12:08 East of Bucharest (2006). When Evening Falls on Bucharest or Metabolism will next screen at Los Angeles' upcoming AFI Fest in November in the festival's World Cinema section.blog comments powered by Disqus
