Our guides are two college students, Otilia and Gabita, preparing for a mysterious appointment in a cheap hotel. Mungiu’s film, the first in a trilogy, is composed in long, uninterrupted takes which edge the viewer into the contemplation of a morally broken universe, where every encounter, even the most seemingly innocent, is tinged with suspicion and fear.
