The 44th New York Film Festival
September 28 – October 14, 2007

In its 44th year The New York Film Festival continues its proud tradition of showing the newest and most important cinematic works by directors from around the world. The 17-day Festival is an unparalleled showcase of inspiring and provocative cinema by emerging talents and first-rank international artists whose films are often recognized as contemporary classics. A special section of the Festival is the Views from the Avant-Garde which premieres non-narrative, experimental film and video.

The Festival is highly competitive with an average of 28 feature films and 12 short films selected each year. There are no categories and no prizes awarded. Selections are made by a five person committee.

All filmmakers, regardless of experience, are invited to submit work to the New York Film Festival. There is no entry fee. There are no competition categories ~ all lengths and all genres are considered. Application forms will be available online late May & the deadline for submission is early July.

Please note: The deadline for submissions to NYFF 2007 has passed. Applications are no longer being accepted.

This year the New York Film Festival Retrospective will be “50 Years of Janus Films.” This series will feature many world cinema classics, some of which are not yet released on DVD or VHS. Working in conjunction with Janus Films and Criterion, the retrospective will screen new prints of almost all the presented films.

The Festival schedule and ticket information will be available to the public on Sunday, September 10th online, in the lobbies of Alice Tully Hall and the Walter Reade Theater as well as in the New York Times. Film Society of Lincoln Center members will receive advance notice of the Festival’s schedule and have the opportunity to purchase tickets in advance. Become a Film Society member to take advantage of this opportunity as well as additional year-round benefits.
