The Sleeping Voice
La voz dormida | Benito Zambrano, 2011
Spain | 128 minutes

In 1940, Pepita comes to the capital from her native Cordoba to be near her sister, condemned to death and pregnant with a child by a left-wing guerilla leader. Adapted from the best-selling novel of Dulce Chacon, The Sleeping Voice captures the tenuous society of jailers and prisoners, the everyday, small acts of kindness or cruelty, as Pepita fights against the machinations of the Church to make sure that her sister’s baby will be given to her after the execution.
