Catherine Deneuve delivers a glorious, career-crowning performance at the center of this frothy 1970s labor-relations farce from director François Ozon (Swimming Pool, 8 Women). When tyrannical umbrella factory boss Albert Pujol (Fabrice Luchini) is taken hostage by striking workers, his trophy wife Suzanne (Deneuve) rises to the occasion, negotiating his release and then taking over control of the factory itself—at which she proves a smashing success, until Albert returns from his sick bed. Decked out in retro pastels and delightful musical interludes, Potiche also features a peerless ensemble cast, including Judith Godrèche and Jérémie Renier as the Pujol children, and a very touching Gérard Depardieu (in his eighth collaboration with Deneuve) as the union leader with whom Suzanne shares a secret past. A bona fide critical and box office hit in France, Potiche has been nominated for four Césars. A Music Box Films release.
