In this chilling things-go-bump-in-the-night, old-dark-house movie by Eduardo Sánchez, co-director of The Blair Witch Project, newlywed former addict Molly (Gretchen Lodge) returns to live in the run-down, isolated house where she and her sister grew up, ready to begin a new life with her truck-driver husband Tim (Johnny Lewis). A series of strange disturbances in the dead of night suggest a malign presence in the house and gradually Molly begins to unravel, haunted by a troubled childhood glimpsed in ominous fragments of family video recordings that punctuate the action. In this classic case of the return of the repressed, Sánchez employs the simplest of means to orchestrate an atmosphere of dread that builds towards a genuinely terrifying peak, aided in no small part by an extraordinarily committed performance from star Gretchen Lodge.
