Cyril Mennegun, 2011
France | Format: DCP | 80 minutes
A tall, middle-aged woman rushes through her chambermaid duties, confronts her manager about more hours, and then goes off to a diner for coffee and smokes. After that, it’s on to her cramped car, which also functions as her bedroom and the only place she can call her own. The next day, the routine begins again. Welcome to the world of Louise Wimmer and its eponymous protagonist. For his first fiction feature, documentary filmmaker Cyril Mennegun has created a tough, unapologetic work that is less a social tract than an attempt to capture the texture of daily life on the fringes of France today. As Louise, Corinne Masiero is never less than riveting.
