Ice skating legends Dick Button, Sarah Hughes, Alberto del Saz, and more in person!

Ice dancing has developed into a lyric and virtuosic art form far removed from the spectacles of bygone eras. Dance on Camera pays tribute to Ice Theatre of New York, the nation’s premier ice dance company. The program will explore "dance on ice" through a brief overview of the history of figure skating as a choreographic art form. Olympic champion and television commentator Dick Button will introduce the evening. Ice Theatre’s founder/director Moira North will introduce video clips of historical dance pieces created by skating artists such as Belita, Toller Cranston and John Curry, along with pieces specifically created for the company by dance choreographers Ann Carlson, David Parsons, Lar Lubovitch, Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux and Twyla Tharp, and also by skating stars such as Johnny Weir and ITNY’s artistic director Douglas Webster, among others.

Saturday panelists: Dick Button, Olympic champion skater and commentator; Moira North, Founder and Director of Ice Theatre of New York; JoAnna Mendl Shaw, choreographer, on faculty of Juilliard and Alvin Ailey school where she teaches composition and choreography; Alberto del Saz, former ice skating champion from Spain, choreographer, modern dancer and current artistic director of Alwin Nikolais/Murray Louis Companies; Sarah Hughes, 2002 Olympic skating champion involved with Ice Theatre since the age of 8 as apprentice.
