German artist Wim Wenders is far more than just a director. He studied medicine and philosophy before getting into film in the late 1960s. His unique style and vision have earned him countless awards, including the Palme d’Or for “Paris, Texas” (1984), multiple best director awards for “Wings of Desire” (1987) and a Master of Cinema award in 2004 from International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg. His 2011 3D dance documentary “Pina” is widely regarded as a new touchstone of the genre.
