Documentary writer-director Jean-Pierre Gorin studied under philosophers Louis Althusser, Michel Foucault and Jacques Lacan before working with Jean-Luc Godard in founding the Dziga Vertov Group. The politically active filmmaking group produced nine films before dissolving after Letter to Jane (1972). He is best known for his southern California documentary films: Poto and Cabengo, Routine Pleasures, My Crasy Life and Letter to Peter. He teaches at the University of California, San Diego.
