Born Nov 6, 1947. From Shanghai, China.
Edward Yang was a pioneer of Taiwanese cinema. Though he lived much of his life in the United States, his work went widely unnoticed by the American community until his last film Yi Yi was released in 2000. The international film industry was well aware of his talent, however, and awarded Yang numerous times for his work. The talented director was versatile, able to make terrific films in a variety of genres, including comedy, with A Confucian Confusion (1994); thrillers such as The Terrorizers (1986); and everything in between. After a 7 year battle with colon cancer, Yang passed away in 2007, but will always be remembered for the beautiful art he gave the world.
