The Big Picture: BEST FILMS OF 2004

A Film Comment Online Exclusive

For Film Commentâs 5th annual criticsâ poll we invited our contributors and colleagues to rank their 20 favorite films of the year, plus the top 10 unreleased films discovered on the festival circuit. In the latter category, all but two (2046 and Los Muertos) had their U.S. premiere at this yearâs 42nd New York Film Festival. (Spooky, or what?) In each ballot from the 80-plus critical chorus, a first-place choice was allotted 20 points, 19 for a second, and so on.
