The 21st NYFF in Pictures

Bookended by two American films—The Big Chill and Streamers—the lineup of the 21st New York Film Festival may appear narrow at first blush. But in actuality, the 1983 Main Slate was a truly eclectic mix ranging from lesser-known titles such as Finye from Malian filmmaker Souleymane Cissé to the latest works from auteurs such as Andrei Tarkovsky, as well as special retrospective screenings from master filmmakers like Alfred Hitchcock and Max Ophüls.
