John Turturro, Director of “Passione,” Coming Soon to the Film Center!

John Turturro’s critically-acclaimed Passione is coming to the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center starting Friday, July 15! In conjunction with the opening of his ode to the music and people of Naples, we are excited to announce a series of appearances by the director. Turturro will be joined by Italian journalist Andrea Visconti of L’Espresso for a special discussion about the Neapolitan music on display in Passione at 7:30pm on July 15 in the Amphitheater - and the event is free and open to the public.

Turturro will also be present for audience Q&As after the 5:00pm and 7:15pm screenings on July 15 and July 16 as well as the 7:00pm screening on July 17. He will also give a short introduction before the 9:30pm screening on July 15.

To get a taste of the passion for his subject matter that you can expect from Turturro, look no further than how he describes his new film. In his own words, Passione is “a musical adventure that comes directly out of the people and the volcanic land they inhabit. Conjuring ancient stories and myths that still live — of love, sex, jealousy, and social protest — each song is a small screenplay, an emotional postcard. I tried to see if I could understand in a small way, a little bit of the soul of the city, while at the same time killing clichés about it. There are places you go and once is enough. Then, there’s Napoli.”
