Cannes Film Festival Unveils 2014 Competition & More

The Cannes Film Festival revealed details about its Competition, Un Certain Regard, Midnight, and Special Screenings lineup Thursday in Paris. As previously announced, Olivier Dahan's Grace of Monaco, starring Nicole Kidman, will open the 67th edition and Marie Amachoukeli, Claire Burger, and Samuel Theis's Party Girl will launch the Un Certain Regard section. Highlights from this year's lineup include new work from veterans including Olivier Assayas, Jean-Luc Godard, the Dardenne Brothers, Naomi Kawase, Mike Leigh, and Ken Loach.

Bennett Miller (Capote) will make his first showing in Cannes' main lineup with Foxcatcher, while Québécois filmmaker Xavier Dolan makes his third showing on the Croisette with his latest, Mommy, though it will be his first in the Competition. Ryan Gosling, meanwhile, will screen his directorial debut, Lost River, in the Un Certain Regard section.

The 67th Cannes Film Festival takes place May 14-25.

Olivier Dahan -- Grace of Monaco (Opening Film, previously announced)

The story of former Hollywood star Grace Kelly's crisis of marriage and identity, during a political dispute between Monaco's Prince Rainier III and France's Charles De Gaulle, and a looming French invasion of Monaco in the early 1960s.

Olivier Assayas -- Clouds of Sils Maria

Maria Enders (Juliette Binoche) has a successful acting career and a loyal assistant Valentine (Kristen Stewart) but when a young actress (Chloe Grace Moretz) interpreted a role in a new movie – the same role which had made Enders famous – her world starts to crumble. Haunted by her past life, she withdraws herself along with her assistant in Swiss town of Sils Maria.

Bertrand Bonello -- Saint Laurent

Centered on the life of Yves Saint Laurent from 1965 to 1976, the film stars Gaspard Ulliel as the famed French fashion designer.

Nuri Bilge Ceylan -- Kis Uykusu (Winter Sleep)

David Cronenberg -- Maps to the Stars

 A complex look at Hollywood and what it reveals about Western culture.

Jean-Pierre Dardenne & Luc Dardenne -- Deux Jours, Une Nuit (Two Days, One Night)

The film follows Sandra, a young woman assisted by her husband, who has only one weekend to convince her colleagues to give up their bonuses so that she can keep her job.

Xavier Dolan -- Mommy

A widowed single mother, raising her violent son alone, finds new hope when a mysterious neighbor inserts herself into their household.

Atom Egoyan -- The Captive

In the thriller, a father tries to track down his kidnapped daughter.

Jean-Luc Godard -- Adieu Au Langage (Goodbye to Language)

Michel Hazanavicius -- The Search

A woman who works for a non-governmental organization (NGO) forms a special relationship with a young boy in war-torn Chechnya.

Tommy Lee Jones -- The Homesman

A claim jumper and a pioneer woman team up to escort three insane women from Nebraska to Iowa.

Naomi Kawase -- Still the Water

Mike Leigh -- Mr. Turner

A look at the life of British artist J.M.W Turner.
