AFI Fest Unveils World Cinema, American Independents Selections & More

AFI Fest gave details of the remainder of its 2013 program Tuesday, listing films that will screen in its World Cinema, American Independents, Breakthrough, Midnight, Cinema's Legacy and Presentations sections. This year's festival, opening November 7 with John Lee Hancock's Saving Mr. Banks, includes 83 features and 36 shorts from 43 countries.

AFI Fest's World Cinema program includes Sebastián Lelio's Gloria, Hirokazu Kore-eda's Like Father, Like Son, Stephanie Spray and Pacho Velez's Manakamana, Alain Guiraudie's Stranger By the Lake, Corneliu Porumboiu's When Evening Falls On Bucharest Or Metabolism and Hany Abu-Assad's Omar, which screened at the recent New York Film Festival. The section will also feature Exhibition, by NYFF 51 Emerging Artists participant, Joanna Hogg.

This year's program includes the return of several filmmakers to AFI Fest including Closed Curtains' Jafar Panahi; Moebius' Kim Ki-duk; Our Sunhi's Hong Sang-soo; Tom At the Farm's Xavier Dolan and We Are The Best!'s Lukas Moodysoon.

The 2013 AFI Fest takes place November 7 - 14 at the TCL Chinese Theatre (formerly known as Grauman's Chinese), the Chinese 6 Theatres at the Hollywood & Highland Center, the Egyptian Theatre of the American Cinematheque and the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
