Halloween Brings Scary Movies Opening, Party and Costume Contest

Halloween is one of our favorite holidays at Film Society. Not only are we enjoying a little breather after the madness of NYFF, but All Hallow's Eve brings the start of our popular Scary Movies series, which is celebrating its seventh edition. This year's lineup includes more premieres and in-person appearances than ever before, not to mention the usual selection of overlooked horror gems handpicked by programmers Laura Kern and Gavin Smith.

To get things started right, we're throwing a little Halloween party on Thursday night. Your ticket to either of the evening's screenings—the U.S. Premiere of Lucky McKee and Chris Sivertson's All Cheerleaders Die or the camp zombie classic Cemetery Man starring Rupert Everett—includes admission to a reception in the Furman Gallery (across the lobby from the Walter Reade Theater). We're decking the place out with creepy decorations and will be serving snacks, candy, and a special Halloween cocktail. The party starts at 9:00pm and goes until the witching hour (midnight, for the non-Anne Rice fans out there).

We figure a lot of you will be heading out to parties afterward, so we'll also be having a costume contest! The person who comes dressed in the most creative get-up will win a three-film Scary Movies package, a bag full of Film Society swag, this beautiful Monsters in the Movies book by John Landis, and a year-long Film Lover membership. So yeah, it's a pretty good haul.

We hope to see you there! Here are a few costume ideas...
