A single film received most of the major prizes at the European Film Awards yesterday. Michael Haneke's Amour, the Palme d'Or recipient at this year's Cannes Film Festival and a favorite at the 50th New York Film Festival, was the big winner. Amour was honored with trophies for best picture, best director (Michael Haneke), best actor (Jean-Louis Trintignant) and best actress (Emmanuelle Riva).

Two other films, Shame and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, also won multiple awards at last night's ceremony in Malta.

The prizes were voted on by the 2,700 members of the European Film Academy.
