‘12 Years A Slave’ Leads Screen Actors Guild Nominations

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) gave their nominations for the best performances of 2013 with cast members of NYFF premiere 12 Years A Slave receiving nods in a number of categories including Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Suppporting Role (Michael Fassbender) and Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role (Lupita Nyong'o). The film was also nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture category.

Male Lead contenders also include Bruce Dern (Nebraska) and Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips) which also screened at NYFF. They were joined by Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club) and Forest Whitaker (Lee Daniels' The Butler). NYFF51 Honoree Cate Blanchett was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her work on Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine. Also contending in the category are Sandra Bullock (Gravity), Judi Dench (Philomena), Meryl Streep (August: Osage County) and Emma Thompson (Saving Mr. Banks).

The 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards® will be simulcast live nationally on TNT and TBS on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 at 8 p.m. (ET)/5 p.m. (PT) from the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center.
