Margot at the Wedding

Margot at the Wedding
Series: The 45th New York Film Festival [Sep 28 - Oct 14 2007]
Director: Noah Baumbach , Country: USA, Release: 2007, Runtime: 93

Noah Baumbach has proven himself a master dramatist of little skirmishes among neurotics with literary pedigrees, as seen from the point of a view of a sensitive son caught in the crossfire. In this marvelous, edgy follow-up to The Squid and the Whale (NYFF, 2005), Margot (Nicole Kidman), a high-strung novelist, brings her own sensitive son (Zane Pais) for a disastrous visit with her eternally defensive sister Pauline (Jennifer Jason Leigh) at the family home. The occasion is Pauline’s wedding to a shlub named Malcolm (Jack Black). Beautifully written, acted and directed, Baumbach’s film is as psychologically acute as it is harrowingly funny.

A Paramount Vantage release.
