Available position: Director of Finance

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

This position is responsible for the leadership of the finance department for the Film Society. The Film Society has a $7.5m operating budget, a $5m investment portfolio and a $40m capital project. Areas of responsibility include accounting, budgeting, banking relations, cash management, tax filings, annual audit, monthly financial statements, corporate insurance, capital projects reconciliation and oversight of financial information systems.

The Director of Finance is a member of the Film Society’s senior management team and works closely with the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer. The Director of Finance will be an integral part of planning for the opening of the Elinor Bunin-Munroe Film Center in 2011.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepare the annual operating budget in conjunction with the C.O.O. and department heads.
• Preparation of monthly financial statements.
• Preparation of short and long-term cash flow analysis.
• Monitor internal procedures controlling up to $7.5 million in annual revenue, including ticket sales and contributed income.
• Monitor internal procedures controlling up to $40 million in capital project funds.
• Oversee the annual audit and preparation of federal filings, including form 990.
• Serve as staff liaison to Board of Director’s Finance Committee.
• Attend and oversee quarterly Board Finance Committee meetings
• Work with banking institutions to manage, with Board Finance committee, investment portfolio and strategy.
• Manage all corporate insurances, including renewals and claims.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Strong experience in financial operations of a not-for-profit organization, or, a public accounting background with a focus on not-for-profit clients. Minimum five years of hands-on management experience in a senior financial position.
• In-depth knowledge of financial computer systems and applications.
• Knowledge of computer ticketing systems would be helpful.
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task and work well under pressure.
