Entry into our festivals is open to all filmmakers. You are encouraged to submit to any festival for which you feel your work is appropriate. All lengths and all genres are considered for our festivals. There is no entry fee to submit a film to Film Society of Lincoln Center festivals. There are no competition categories and we do not give out any prizes. However, acceptance into the NYFF, ND/NF and Scanners is highly competitive in that only a small number of films submitted are chosen. All our festivals are selectively curated by committee. The New York Film Festival Open to entries from all filmmakers, regardless of experience. Please note, however, that entries to the New York Film Festival tend to include works by many well-established filmmakers, meaning that the level of competition to get a film accepted is very high. A special section of the NYFF is Views from the Avant-Garde which premieres non-narrative, experimental film and video. You may not submit to both the main Festival and the Avant-Garde section, you must chose one. Application forms for NYFF will be available late May. The deadline for submissions is early July. New Directors/New Films Festival Intended for filmmakers completing their first or second films. ND/NF is co-presented with the Department of Film, Museum of Modern Art. Application forms will be available online in early November & the deadline for submissions is early January. Scanners: New York Video Festival Selects work that includes the experimental and avant-garde as well as narratives and documentaries that push aesthetic boundaries. It is aimed at work created as innovative, alternative media, not traditional narratives or documentaries. Application forms will be available online late January & the deadline for submissions is early March. Eligibility Requirements All films shown in our festivals MUST be New York premieres (the first public screenings of the film in New York). The Selection Committee may make exceptions in the case of private, unadvertised screenings. Films in a language other than English must be subtitled in English. Submissions For The New York Film Festival and New Directors/New Films you may submit your film in 16mm, 35mm, Digibeta and VHS in either NTSC or PAL, any region of DVD and HD Cam. For Scanners: New York Video Festival you may submit your film in either NTSC or PAL VHS, any region of DVD and HD Cam. For submission purposes only, foreign films without English subtitles can be considered if accompanied by an English dialogue list. Exhibition Formats The New York Film Festival: 16mm or 35mm, DH Cam New Directors/New Films Festival: 16mm, 35mm, Digibeta, Beta, DH Cam Scanners: New York Video Festival: Beta, Digibeta (NTSC or PAL), DV Cam, Mini DV, Panasonic DVC Pro, DH Cam. We do not screen HD or DVD formats.
